Two natural phenomena, Magnetic Hill and the Tidal Bore are highlights among the city attractions here in Moncton, NB.

Magnetic Hill is an unusual experience. This is where visitors drive 'downhill' to a spot indicated by a white post and then, with gears in neutral and breaks released, the car moves backward, coasting 'up' the hill.

This phenomena is attributed to an optical illusion from the surrounding hillside sloping away from the road.

Weird!!  Here is a photo of someone's car coming 'up' the hill!

Next is the Tidal Bore - which runs up the Petitcodiac River twice daily causing a small tidal wave.

The incoming tide moves upstream against the regular flow of water, causing a single river-wide wave.

The rain didn't deter anyone from watching this event - but pictures would have turned out better had the sun been shining!
