Today we went painting.

Mary Lou (painting teacher) took us out to a friends’ farm, where there were many choices of things to paint. She has lots of animals on her farm; cows, horses, donkeys, goats, geese, turkeys, chickens, peacocks, doves, and of course dogs…. The cows here are sure a lot skinnier than our cows.

They use pallets for fencing and for the animal pens.

Our hostess was Margarita and she was a wonderful hostess. She made us lunch; carne asada (bbq beef); tortillas, salsa, guacamole…. Very good!! (the beef here is very chewy, not like our good old Costco beef!!)

The season premier of Survivor was on this evening so we had a Survivor Party. We decided on a fish fry. We cooked the fish on the BBQ and we all brought a complimentary dish to along with it. We all had lots to eat (and drink) and had a good time…. In this picture we’re all stuffing our faces.

ROAD TRIP

Took a picture of the sunrise the morning of our road trip. We were on the trail by 7:00 - Rich and Tina, Wayne and Deb (from Utah) and ourselves. Our destination: San Luis Ganzaga about 65 miles south of San Felipe, give or take a few miles….











First stop along the way - Cowpatty’s, just north of Puertocitos. It would be a beer stop, but it wasn’t open so we just used the facilities and took advantage of the time to take pictures.

They are building a new highway to Ganzaga, and it’s a wonderful road; brand new hard top, nice three foot shoulders, pull-outs at view points…. but about 20 miles south of Puertocitos the road just ends. And when I say ends I’m not kidding. The writing on the ground is ‘finito’ and there is about a 10 foot drop…. We were traveling at about 80 kmh and literally had to slam on the breaks..

But we only just missed out turn, so we just had to backtrack a little and take the ‘old’ highway. This is the old highway - -

　

We ran into our painting teacher, Mary Lou about 5 miles down the old highway and followed her and her party to an old onyx mine. We spent the better part of an hour rummaging through the rocks and taking pictures before we said our good byes and carried on.

The trip to Ganzaga took us about 5 hours, including all our stops along the way. The reason it took so long to go such a short distance….. Check out these roads!!! We averaged 20 mph. But all in all we figure it was worth it.

The hotel wasn’t anything to write home about, but the bay was beautiful and the restaurant we had dinner at had very good food.

The next morning we had coffee on the patio and watched the sun come up. We had a good breakfast right there at the hotel and made it back to San Felipe in only 4 hours

Took a painting class last week. Water color...Tina and I had never water painted before, and I was quite impressed at how well we did, seeing as it was our first try at it. Thanks to Mary Lou, who is a patient teacher

There was a big time storm here today, major wind, more rain than they've seen here in years. The ocean had huge waves and whitecaps. It is an unusual site here in San Felipe, and we sat indoors - it was quite a spectacular show. When the storm subsided there was this beautiful rainbow over the ocean......

Happy New Year!


Another year behind us, it's really hard to believe. We haven't really done much, so there isn't much to blog about.

Here is a picture of the beautiful sunset we saw the other night.

Michel has work to do on his hobicat before he can go sailing. Felipe is the Mexican fella who is doing the work, so we have no idea when that will be done .... IF it will get done at all....OH WELL!!!


We met up with friends we met last year, Rick and Wendy, (they live here for 9 or 10 months of the year) and he has an 18 foot HobiCat, that hasn't been in the water for over 5 years.... BUT that didn't stop them. With the sailing bug in the air they did a 'dry run' at Rick's house to see if all the parts were there and if anything needed repair. They had to fibreglass one of the rudders, but that seemed to be all, except for the fact that the ropes and such were very dry and kinda stiff..... Then a couple of days later then put it into the water.

And off they went - - the sails filled with air and they did GREAT for about an hour.. Then - over she went !!

They spent another hour waiting for someone to rescue them. And another hour for the rescue boat to pull them in.

There was a bit of damage, but nothing that can't be repaired. And it hasn't deterred them at all. They are talking about WHEN they can go back out...... CRAZY!!!!
