Today our resident alligator took a walk through the park. He caused a bit of a stir, as many people were gathering to take his picture. Poor guy, all he wanted was to get away and he took the first opportunity he could to make a dash for the bushes behind these motorhomes.

March 1, 2013

I guess it's time I post again before you all think we've dropped off the face of the earth - (lol) I can't believe it's already March. Where did February go?

Our time here in Southern Florida is coming to an end. We'll be leaving the park on March 13th, slowly heading toward 'home', hopefully meeting up with friends from San Diego (Mike and Christine) in Orlando for a few days before we head to New Orleans.

We've really enjoyed southern Florida, and the Big Cypress Preserve. We've met many wonderful people, some of whom we hope to cross paths with again. Here is Cheryl and Ray. We enjoyed our time with them. They are fellow Canadians who have been living and working in the USA for a number of years. They are newly retired RV 'newbies', living full-time in their newly purchased Holiday Rambler, and travelling all over the country. Good Luck you two - hope to see you again in our travels.

Last weekend, cousin Karen and husband drove down from Vero Beach to spend a few days with us. Again we had a great time. Spent the day touring like tourists. The evenings we spent talking and laughing. Who knew we had so much to say? Two late nights, but such a good time. We'll miss you guys. Stay in touch....

Seafood Festival in nearby Everglade City
Celebrating 40 years
with  craft and food booths, carnival rides and games.

Lots of people

And bikes everywhere!!

There was a full roster of events beginning Friday evening at 5:30 and ending Sunday at 7:00 pm.
We spent about 4 hours there in the morning and early afternoon and that was enough.... It was at least 85 degrees and it was crowded... time to go home!!!

On our last trip to Naples for groceries we took a detour and went firstly to Marcos Island. There we had a great lunch in a nearby Irish Pub, then went to the theatre to see a movie.

In Marcos they have a 'different concept' theatre..
As you can see here it's definitely different...
There is table service - you don't even have to get out of your seat to get popcorn!!
The only problem is that there are really only a couple good places to sit

As you can see the theatre isn't very big, and most of the seats are at an angle to the screen. Oh well, we did get one of the best places - one of the cubbies at the top of the stairs.....we watched Silver Linings Playbook and had a very good day!

We spent the past few days visiting my cousin Karen and her husband Tom in Vero Beach.  We had such a good time in November we had to go back again before we left Florida. Michel went golfing with Tom.

After a rough day on the golf course, the guys came home and took us girls out for dinner. They eat here quite often, and now we know why. This on-the-water restaurant has a good reputation - there mahi mahi fish and chips were excellent!

Blue Hawaii time!!
Tom must have been a bartender in his past life. He makes all kinds of fancy drinks.
We sure did enjoy another visit, their hospitality is unmatched...
Thank you again Karen and Tom!!

We paddled our way down the Turner River today. There was a group of 14 people, most of us in canoes (couples) then the leader and the trailer in kayaks. The day began at 10 am and we paddled our way to be home again just after 3:00.

We were in the heart of the jungle, pulling our way through the mangroves which were very thick., as you can see. And the water level was quite low, so our boat was dragging in places. In another week there won't be any more Canoe trips as the water level will be too low.

Along the way we spotted all kinds of wildlife, mostly birds, but we saw our share of alligators, several with babies....

Here is Michel in the stern - he's the 'power' and in charge of steering the boat.
It was a good day - very tiring, but satisfying.

We've made many trips to Naples in our time here for shopping, but this is the first time we've visited the Naples Pier and beach. It was a beautiful sunny hot day and many were taking advantage of this fact, enjoying the rays and waves.....

Others were enjoying fishing on the pier.

You can see the many fishing poles lined up in the hut.

Here a guy is filleting his catch - a small marlin.
