Summer is almost gone and my blogging has been non-existent!  Not that we haven't been doing anything, we just haven't been doing much to blog about. So this is what we've been up to for the summer...

We just said good-bye to my grandson Tristan and his lovely girlfriend Riley. They drove from Red Deer to spend a few days with Grandma.... awww Grandma loves it!!

They did a little touring of the area on their own and we did a little touring with them.

We played a little bocce ball in the yard in the daylight, then a little game of sequence in the evening.

Mostly we just visited.  It was great to have them here. Thank you sweetie for taking the time and making the trip.....

we drove up to Jewel Lake,
but the smoke was pretty bad up there
so we didn't stay very long.

Most of our summer we've spent pretty close to home, with one trip to Kelowna in August. We haven't even had much company. Bob and Ann were here for my birthday (July 20) and we had a few more friends come over for a while in the evening.

We've been to two concerts at the Legion this summer.

We listened to the sounds of Aaron Halliday, who is an excellent tribute to Alan Jackson;  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4SxmWUow2SQ
and Sugar Brown, who has been all over the country singing the blues

Both entertainers were pretty high class entertainment for a small place like Greenwood Legion.

I guess that about sums it up, we still play cards once a week with Leo and Solange, and we've seen Steve and Doreen on occasion but, looking back I guess we've had a pretty quiet summer.

We spent the past weekend with friends Bob and Ann in West Kelowna. Something we've talked about for four years, this year we finally did it! We attended the Penticton Elvis Festival. This was the 17th Annual (three day) event with 30 contestants competing for the title and the priviledge of representing Penticton at the Ultimate Elvis competition in Memphis later this year.
(Enjoying the music and the weather.)

We spent Friday and Saturday afternoons at the park basking in the songs and sunshine. For the most part the Elvis contestants were good. A few were really good and a few were really bad!!

A group shot of all 30 contestants.

Steven Sogura, Seattle-area ETA (Elvis Tribute Artist) was named the top professional.

The Elvis Fest was not the only event happening in Penticton last weekend. They had their Classic Car Show as well. More than 850 cars of all shapes, new and old, from across the continent were in the city for the biggest car show in Western Canada.

Here we are enjoying a little drink on Ann and Bob's deck on Saturday when we got back to their house.

Another month has come and gone (almost). We just can't believe how fast time goes by. We went to Alberta for a week to visit family and friends. It's always a long and tiring drive, but in my humble opinion, it is so worth it!  We stayed (once again) at Tammy and Rob's (my daughter and son-in-law) place just south of Ponoka. Thank you so much for all your hospitality. We always seem to "invade" you when we come to visit!

We went to visit with my cousin Norman and his lovely wife Alice. Had a wonderful visit. It was wonderful to see you again!

My bestie Deb came from St. Albert to visit for the afternoon. It's always great to spend time with her! And I am so thankful that she took the time to drive down.

My son Farren drove down from Grimshaw for the long weekend. He brought our little granddaughter Violet with him and Michel and I went to Sylvan Lake to get his older daughter Melody. So we had a fun filled weekend with family. The girls had a great time, and I got lots of grandma time snuggles....

My grandson Tristan and his lovely girlfriend Riley came by every day of the weekend to spend time with Grandma!! How special is that?

It was the first time in many years that the whole family was together and a perfect time to get family photos, but that just didn't seem to happen but thanks to "selfies" posted to fb, I managed to snag this one of Tristan and Riley!

It was quite a houseful on the weekend, but we all just enjoyed each other, laughed and chatted! Farren left Monday morning with Violet and we drove Melody back home. Tammy had to go back to work. It was a pretty quite household once again. Went out for dinner with Rob.

Tuesday morning we left for home.

We spent Tuesday with friends Dennis and Nola in Spillamacheen (Radium Hot Springs). We went out for dinner then played cards until we were all ready for bed. Always good to see this couple! Until next time ....

While we were gone there was a mudslide on Hwy 3 just west of Creston.  We had heard they had cleared the road and it was open to single lane traffic so we knew we were safe to go. We had good travel days both going to Alberta and coming back. Low traffic and minimal construction. All is good - we arrived home safe and sound on Wednesday afternoon.

On Tuesday, April 17th we drove to Kelowna. This is the weather we encountered for most of the drive. It was not pleasant! But, when we arrived in Kelowna the sun was shining and we discovered that we were way over dressed for the day - lol! We had a few appointments in the morning, then we picked up Michel's mom and took her for lunch, then went to visit Michel's dad.

We spent the evening with friends Bob and Ann in West Kelowna, and the next day did some shopping before heading back home. What a difference a day makes!  Thursday was a warm and wonderful drive back home, in fact, most of the snow was already gone and the roads were dry.

We've been busy in the yard of course, raking leaves and just cleaning it up.

I took on the project to repaint and antique this little cabinet. It belonged to my mom and I cannot remember her not having it - so this little piece of furniture is probably older than me!  I had stained it a few years back this dark stain, but decided that we needed colour in the living room.....

What do you think of this? I love the color! Do you think my mom would approve??

On April 3rd we celebrated Michel's birthday with Steve and Doreen at Red Lobster in Palm Desert.  We all ordered steak - what was up with that?  What a good meal it was.

Afterwards we went back to Steve and Doreen's and enjoyed the rest of the evening.

That was pretty much our last hurrah!
We left for home on Saturday, April 7th. Our usual route home.... first night just north of Vegas at the Pahanagrat Preserve, the second night Cactus Pete's Casino in Jackpot. Here we met up again with Rich and Tina.

L to R clockwise:
Barb, Wayne, Ralph, Tina, Rich, Myself, Lois, Bobbie and Dan
We met up with them again on the third night at the Wildhorse Casino in Pendleton, Oregon. We were enjoying the warm sunshine and having a happy hour in the parking lot, when all these BC people pulled in next to us. So our little happy hour turned into a big happy hour.

We enjoyed meeting them all: Lois and Ralph(Langley), Bobbie and Dan (Lake Country), Barb and Wayne (Rock Creek). We had met Barb and Wayne previously at Steve and Doreen's home in Greenwood. And Bobbie and Dan know Michel's grandchildren in Lake Country.  What a small world it is! This is why we enjoy RVing!!

We arrived at home on Tuesday, April 10th. It was a nice day, the sun was shining and the snow almost gone.  Getting all settled in at home now, it is nice to be home!😊

March 22, 2018

Yesterday was the last hurrah at the park - the last of the 'get-togethers'. It was well attended and the weather was awesome.
Sitting with the girls enjoying a margarita
(l to r) Barb, Deb, Dianne and myself.
The margarita girls - Suzanne and Bonnie.

There was all kinds of food and free hot dogs.

Even the margaritas were free - while they last it was said - but they seemed to last for a long time.

Frank at the BBQ doing up the dogs

We played water washers using pool noodles and beach balls. That was quite fun.

Our time is winding down now, counting the weeks. Our plan is to leave around the 7th of April, landing us home around the 10th.  Hopefully the snow will be gone when we get there - lol!

Michel took a walk up the canyon this past week. The cactus are in bloom.

And he found himself a fixer upper car... What do you think of this one?

March 07, 2018

We made a quick trip to San Felipe, Mexico (in the Baja) on Monday with friends Rich and Tina.

The weather was wonderful with sunshine and ocean breezes.

We spent two nights, the second night in a hotel on the beach.

San Felipe is very quiet these past years, most of the RV Parks no longer open. But the people who still take their rigs down wouldn't go anywhere else!

Selfie on the beach in front of our hotel
We took a drive to Puertecitos which is about 85 km (50 miles) south of San Felipe. This section of road is bad - rough, broken, narrow and slow travelling.
Pictured above is the bay at Puertecitos.

We had thought of going all the way to Ganzaga Bay, which is another 85 km south, but decided against it as that would only add another few hours to our trip back home (Palm Springs) the next morning.
The paved road south of Puertecitos is wonderful compared the miles and miles of dirt road we travelled on last time.

Beautiful sunrise (5:59 AM) on the morning we left.
We don't see too many of these - not because we don't have beautiful sunrises (and sunsets) here in California, but because we are not usually up at that time!
We all had a good time and are happy that we took the time, made the plan and actually drove to San Felipe to check it out after talking about it for a few years.
